Cultural confidence entails a nation, a country, and a political party’s full affirmation and active practice of their cultural values, as well as a firm belief in the vitality of their culture.

 

文化自信是更基础、更广泛、更深厚的自信，是一个国家、一个民族发展中最基本、最深沉、最持久的力量。坚定文化自信，是事关国运兴衰、事关文化安全、事关民族精神独立性的大问题。

Cultural confidence is more fundamental, broader, and profound than other forms of confidence. It is the most basic, profound, and enduring force for the development of a country or a nation. Strengthening cultural confidence is essential to the future of the nation, cultural security, and national spiritual independence.

 

我们的文化自信，不仅来自于文化的积淀、传承与创新、发展，更来自于中国特色社会主义的伟大实践，来自于实现中华民族伟大复兴的光明前景。新的征程上，我们要更加自觉地增强文化自信，更加自觉地担负起新的文化使命，在实践创造由进行文化创造，在历史进步中实现文化进步。

Our cultural confidence arises not only from cultural accumulation, inheritance, innovation, and development but also from the great practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It comes from the bright prospect of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. In the new journey, we need to enhance our cultural confidence consciously, shoulder new cultural missions, create culture through practice, and achieve cultural progress with historical progress.

坚定文化自信，从根本上来说是为了实现文化自强，建设社会主义文化强国。以社会主义核心价值观为引领，发展社会主义先进文化，弘扬革命文化，传承中华优秀传统文化，满足人民日益增长的精神文化需求。不断提升国家文化软实力和中华文化影响力，把建设社会主义文化强国推向前进。

Strengthening cultural confidence serves the fundamental purpose of realizing cultural self-reliance and building a socialist cultural power. Guided by socialist core values, we aim to develop an advanced socialist culture, promote revolutionary culture, inherit excellent traditional Chinese culture, and meet the growing spiritual and cultural needs of the people. We need to continuously improve our national cultural soft power and China’s cultural influence in order to push forward the construction of a great socialist culture in China.

2019年第12期《求是》杂志发表习近平总书记的重要文章《坚定文化自信，建设社会主义文化强国》。文章强调，没有高度的文化自信，没有文化的繁荣兴盛，就没有中华民族伟大复兴。“我们要坚定中国特色社会主义道路自信、理论自信、制度自信，说到底是要坚持文化自信”

In the 12th issue of Qiushi magazine in 2019, General Secretary Xi Jinping published an important article entitled “Strengthening Cultural Confidence and Developing a Great Socialist Culture in China”. The article emphasized that without strong cultural confidence in cultural prosperity, there can be no great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. “We need to have firm confidence in our path, theory, and system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which ultimately means having cultural confidence.”

 

On September 8, 2020, during the National Commendation Conference for Fighting COVID-19, General Secretary Xi stated that cultural confidence is the most fundamental, profound, and enduring force in the development of a nation or a people. A good culture that promotes goodness and upward mobility is an important bond that connects a country and a people and is essential for its well-being.

 

2021年12月14日，习近平在中国文联第十一次全国代表大会、中国作协第十次全国代表大会开幕式上发表重要讲话强调，源于人民、为了人民、属于人民，是社会主义文艺的根本立场，也是社会主义文艺繁荣发展的动力所在。

On December 14, 2021, at the opening ceremony of the 11th National Congress of the Chinese Artists Association and the 10th National Congress of the China Writers Association, General Secretary Xi delivered an important speech emphasizing that art must come from the people, serve the people, and belong to the people. This is the fundamental stance, as well as the driving force behind socialist literature and art’s prosperity and development.

 

习近平总书记所作的党的二十大报告从国家发展、民族复兴高度，提出“推进文化自信自强，铸就社会主义文化新辉煌”的重大任务，为做好新时代文化工作提供了根本遵循、指明了前进方向。

Xi’s report to the 20th CPC National Congress proposed the significant task of “promoting cultural self-confidence and strengthening culturally for the new glory of socialist culture,” from the perspective of national development and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. It provided fundamental guidance and direction for cultural work in the new era.

 

中华优秀传统文化是中华民族的精神命脉，是中华民族的文化根脉，也是我们在世界文化中站稳脚跟的坚实根基。我们作为新时代的青年，我们更应明确：弘扬优秀传统文化，坚定文化自信。

Fine traditional Chinese culture is the spiritual lifeline and cultural roots of the Chinese nation, as well as the solid foundation for us to stand firm in the world. As young people of the new era, we should be aware of the importance of promoting traditional culture and strengthening cultural confidence.

 

为提高我校学生的综合英语运用能力，展现良好的英语学习风貌和文化自信，2022年6月2日，大学英语教学部举办第15届“南国杯”大学英语演讲比赛决赛。进行决赛的20位选手用自己的理解传递了他们的看法：坚定文化自信，传播中国声音。

In order to improve our students’ comprehensive English language application abilities and demonstrate their excellent English capability and strengthen cultural confidence, on June 2, 2022, College English Department of SCBC held the 15th “Nanguo Cup” College English Speech Contest, final. The 20 finalists conveyed their views on the importance of firmly establishing cultural confidence and disseminating China’s voice.

 

本次大赛通过班级初赛、视频复赛，最终有20名选手进入决赛。决赛分为三部分：2分钟即兴演讲、主题演讲和1分钟即兴演讲。经过第一轮即兴演讲，得分最高的12为选手晋级到主题演讲环节。选手们围绕“China’s Wisdom for the World”（中国智慧）主题进行3分钟的定题演讲，并接受现场外教嘉宾的提问。

The contest consisted of class preliminaries and video semifinals, with 20 contestants entering the final competition. The final consisted of three parts: 2-minute impromptu speech, 3-minute themed speech, and 1-minute instant speech. After the first round of impromptu speeches, the top 12 scorers advanced to the themed speech section, where they delivered a 3-minute speech under the theme “China’s Wisdom for the World” and answered questions from the foreign judges.

大学英语演讲比赛不仅丰富了校园文化，给同学们提供了发挥英语特长的舞台，助力学生获得更高级别的英语竞赛奖项，而且极大地调动了全校学生对中华文化的积极理解，促进了我校学生的文化自信，是我校“随时随地学外语·讲外语·用外语”的特色体现，同时也是我校大学英语特色实践活动的组织和建设的重要成果之一。

College English speech contest not only enriches our campus culture and provides a platform for students to showcase their English skills but also greatly stimulates their positive understanding of Chinese culture and promoted their cultural confidence. It represents the university’s unique feature of “learning, speaking, and using foreign languages anytime, anywhere” and is also one of the important results of the College English Practical activity organization and construction emphasis.
