Voice recorder
A voice recorder is a machine that helps you record a voice or sound and play it back. However, when it comes to social media, it refers to repeating what others have said online just to show your support.
Flaky people
It refers to those who often flake on plans for no reason and let people down.
People who easily break promises
The term actually originated from a Chinese reality TV show, "X-Change," in which teenagers from cities and rural areas temporarily swap lives. In an episode aired in June 2014, Wang Jingze, a 16-year-old boy from Changchun, northeast China's Jilin Province, refused to eat meals served to him in the village, vowing, "I, Wang Jingze, would rather die than touch your food!" But later Wang was captured gobbling up his food and exclaiming, "It's so delicious!" The scene then went viral and quickly became a meme to roast those who fail to keep their word and easily break their promises.
Sour Lemon
The phrase describes people who have a high opinion of themselves and denigrate something simply because they can't have it, or pretend not to be jealous when in fact they are, which is similar to the term "sour grapes."
As "sour lemon" became a popular term, various memes popped up on China's social media platforms. The usage of this catchphrase has gradually changed. At first, it was frequently seen in quarrels among social media users, but later it was employed for self-mockery and conveying admiration.
Coincidentally, there is also a lemon-related meme that flooded foreign social media site Reddit at the beginning of 2019. But it has nothing to do with envy or jealousy. The meme has a long history, as its origin can be traced back to 2009 when a net user named "Shutterstock" uploaded a stock image titled "Lemon with Automobile Wheels," featuring a lemon with toy car wheels.
On July 2, 2018, a Reddit user named "blueberrybrown" reposted the "lemon car "stock image on the site, along with a caption, "This meme is from the future, you won't understand it until 2019."
The image and the caption triggered people's curiosity and many waited to find out its meaning. On the first day of 2019, "blueberrybrown" again posted the "lemon car" and the post received over 22,700 comments within two days. However, net users still could not figure it out and they reposted other memes featuring lemons to roast the mysterious "lemon car," which made it become a trending meme unexpectedly.
